  • Shell Enterprise Development Awards

Last week Shell hosted its annual Enterprise Development Awards event in London, to celebrate another year of entrepreneurial talent and crown the national winner of Shell Springboard and announce the newest Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

After a day of pitching by the finalists the panel unanimously declared Farm-Hand the winner of Shell Springboard 2019, taking their total equity-free funding to one-hundred-and-fifty-thousand-pounds. Farm-Hand provides a data-driven, technological solution to help farmers working in challenging conditions to increase crop yield and reduce over-irrigation, through dramatically reducing water waste and cutting down on electricity use. By using a combination of free local resources and boots-on-the-ground intelligence, Farm-Hand’s solution provides tangible social benefits for families relying on the agricultural sector as their main source of income.

The agricultural theme was extended to Shell LiveWIRE’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, with Charlie Guy of LettUs Grow being announced as the winner of 2019’s competition. LettUs Grow operates in the rapidly growing vertical farming sector, providing software (based on patent pending technology), which allows vegetables to grow using 95 per cent less water than traditional agriculture methods. LettUs Grow provides the technology to enable indoor farms to reach profitability and encourages environmental efficiency in the agriculture sector, enabling us to eat in a more sustainable way. Charlie has now received a total of thirty-thousand-pounds to help him scale LettUs Grow and reach international markets, and thus reduce the waste and carbon footprint of fresh produce across the world.

As a global leader in innovation, the UK is at the heart of providing solutions towards a low-carbon future. Do you have an idea that could accelerate the energy transition? Find out more about the two winners here: https://www.shell-livewire.org/news/...lopment-awards
